Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?+

No. Conversion happens entirely inside your browser and your file is never sent anywhere — personal videos stay private.

Can I pick the exact section?+

This page is a quick preset that converts the first seconds. For full control over start point, length, size and frame rate, use the 'Video to GIF' tool page.

What about the audio?+

The GIF format has no audio — the result is silent.

Is there a file size limit?+

No server limits, but processing uses browser memory, so it's optimized for short clips (tens to a few hundred MB). Files over 300MB show a warning.

Is it really free?+

Yes. No sign-up, no payment, no conversion limits and no watermark.

Can I pick a different output format?+

Yes — on the converter you can switch the output between MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV, AVI and GIF.

Guide

Why turn MOV into a GIF?

GIFs autoplay, loop forever and paste like images into chats, forums and documents. It's the easiest format for turning a fun moment from a MOV into a reaction clip, or embedding a feature demo or bug capture into a doc.

What happens to quality and size?

GIF is limited to 256 colors, so it can't match video color fidelity — this tool auto-generates an optimized palette per clip to get the most out of the format.

GIF compresses poorly, so sizes grow fast: a 3–6 second section lands at a shareable few MB. The preset here uses 12fps at 480px wide.
