Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?+

No. Processing happens entirely inside your browser and your file is never sent anywhere.

Does it reduce video quality?+

No. The video track is copied without re-encoding — the picture is bit-for-bit identical. It finishes in seconds, too.

Does the file get smaller?+

Yes, by the size of the audio track — typically 5–15% of the file. If size is your goal, the compress tool does much more.

When is this useful?+

Cleaning background noise or conversations out of a clip before posting, getting past upload blocks caused by copyrighted background music, and preparing footage to receive a new soundtrack.

Can I just lower the volume instead?+

This tool removes the audio track entirely. For volume work, check out the tools on our sister site EazyAudio.

Is it really free?+

Yes. No sign-up, no payment, no limits, no watermark.

Guide

Why muting takes seconds

A video file carries a video track and an audio track side by side. Removing the sound just means copying the video track to a new file and leaving the audio behind — no re-compression involved, so quality loss is zero and even long videos finish in seconds.

Common uses: protecting privacy before posting (background conversations, phone calls), avoiding copyright flags from background music, and prepping footage for looping silent playback at shops and exhibitions.
