Why did my conversion finish so fast?+
When the video data inside is compatible with the target (e.g. MOV→MP4), this tool moves it into the new container without re-encoding — zero quality loss and just seconds of work. The fast path is tried automatically whenever possible.
Does converting reduce quality?+
Container-only conversions (MOV/MKV→MP4 — most cases) change nothing about the picture. Only conversions that need re-encoding (WebM, AVI, GIF) can introduce a difference, and it's hard to spot in normal viewing.
Is there a file size limit?+
No server limit, but processing uses your browser's memory, so multi-GB movies are out of scope. It's optimized for clips up to a few hundred MB and warns above 300MB.
Why does it say 'preparing engine' at first?+
The conversion engine (a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg, ~30MB) is downloaded once on first use. It's cached by your browser afterwards.
Can I extract just the audio?+

Which format should I pick?
MP4 is the de-facto standard — it plays on Windows, Mac, iPhone, Android, TVs and every messenger and website. If something 'won't play', converting to MP4 almost always fixes it. The most common jobs: iPhone footage (MOV), downloaded or ripped video (MKV), old camcorder files (AVI/MPG) and screen recordings (WebM) — all to MP4.
WebM is Google's web-embed format with smaller sizes at the same quality; MOV suits the Apple ecosystem and editing apps; MKV is an archival container that carries subtitles and multiple audio tracks. Need a looping animation? Convert to GIF.
What is conversion without re-encoding?
A video file is a container (MP4, MOV, MKV…) holding footage compressed with a codec (like H.264). MOV and MP4 are mostly different boxes around the same content, so converting can be as simple as moving the content into a new box. That's a remux — zero quality loss, done in seconds.
Conversions that must change the content itself (WebM's VP8/VP9, or GIF) need re-compression, which takes time proportional to the clip length. This tool automatically picks the fast path whenever the file allows it.

It runs FFmpeg — the open-source engine behind most video software — compiled to WebAssembly, directly inside your browser. Typical online converters upload your file to their servers; this tool brings the engine to your device instead.
